Oriental Chess Vol 1 :

Lewis, W. Oriental Chess, or specimens of Hindoostanee excellence in that celebrated game; exhibited in more than seventy situations, originally published in India, and remarkable for their unparalleled skill and ingenuity: to which are added, numerous original situations, together with selections from the best European authors. In 2 volumes, there is only volume 1 offered. London, Richardson, 1817. 12 °. IX, 1 sheet, 141 pages with 150 diagrams. Leather binding with title on spine. L/N 2365; van der Linde II, 93; Kiel chess catalogue 6875; Schmid p. 224. "The previous work is a free adaptation of Trevangadacharya Shastree, essays on Chess adopted to the European model of play ..." (Schmid)

The first volume contains the diagrams, in the second volume are the solutions (are in included in this order in the wrong order). 73 of these 150 problems "(marked E), are extracted from a most scarce and valuable treatise, originally compiled in the Sanskrit language". (See Preface).

Condition: Leather binding with strong wear and soiling. Some pages show foxing (stronger on the first and later pages). A few marginalia within the text. Otherwise inside clean. Overall = Still Good for a book over 200 years old.

One feature is that the shipment costs are defined via the longest and the shortest side of the parcel. The weight isn´t important although it is limited to 31,5 kg. The parcel is also insured up to € 500,-.
