DESCRIPTION

"The Return of Alekhine" by C.J.S. Purdy. Published by the Australasian Chess Review in 1938. First Edition. 88pp. Betts 27-42. Privately bound in hardback. Previously owned by GM Laszlo Szabo. The booklet is in Good Plus condition for its age. The binding is good although the gutter is partially visible at one of the early pages (see 8th scan). The boards are clean with slightly damaged tips and a small area of superficial loss to an edge. The gilt lettering on the spine is still readable. Internally the pages have tanned slightly, from age, but are clean. The Szabo ownership link is seen in a bookplate adorning the front pastedown. There is also a stamp on the same page referring to the book being removed from the Cleveland Chess Library ('JGW' being the initials of 'John.G. White' who started this world famous collection). See also the Wikipedia entry for Szabo which refers to his family donating his entire chess library to the Cleveland Chess Library. Several internal pages have miniscule pencil annotations (see scans) that I cannot decipher as the language is not English. There is also a couple of red underlining entries. I would like to think that these entries were done by Szabo himself but I cannot verify this. The page edge block is clean and the booklet is free of foxing. Games are given in English descriptive notation. Scarce and even scarcer with such previous ownership attached. Further scanned images are available on request. 'Signed For' postage by Royal Mail within the UK is £4.00. Airmail postage to Europe and elsewhere will be extra - please ask me for details. Any questions, please just ask.
