Program of the FIDE World Chess Championship 1997/1998. In English. 29 pages + 2 sheets. 29,5 x 19 cm.
This World Championship was played with a new system. The challenger was determined in a tournament played in a knockout system in Groningen, Netherlands. The winner of this tournament, Vishy Anand, played a title match with reigning FIDE World Champion Anatoly Karpov in Lausanne, Switzerland shortly afterwards. Karpov won the rapid playoff, becoming the 1998 FIDE World Chess Champion.
The program contains general tournament information, tournament schedule, detailed information on some of the participants, overview of all world championship matches, the history of chess in Groningen, etc.
