DESCRIPTION

Prokop, F(rantisek) J(osef). 100 samomatu. 100 Selbstmattaufgaben. 100 Problems of Selfmate. Praha, self-eition, 1940. In Czech and partly in German and English. 80 pages. LN 2834. Soukup 100. Mokry 74. Original softcover.

The first book of its kind in Czech chess literature. Contains 100 author's selfmates, of which 12 originals and 88 reproductions. Foreword and index are in German and English in addition to Czech. Little known information is that the translation into German was done by Dr. Artur Mandler (1891-1971), Czech chess composer and close friend of Richard Reti.

Frantisek Josef Prokop (1901-1972) was a Czech chess player, chess composer and author of several chess books. He was a journalist by profession. After 1945 he was sentenced to 4 years in prison for collaboration with the Nazis.

Condition - Good: cover a little soiled/stained, the upper part between pages 2 and 3 is a bit torn, a few removable notes.
