"The British Chess Magazine, 1924" edited by R.C. Griffith. Published in hardback by Whitehead and Miller in 1924. First Edition. 528pp. Betts 7-27. All twelve issues of the BCM for the calendar year of 1924 bound in the BCM's traditional maroon boards. Volume 44. The volume is in Good Plus condition for its age. The binding is tight and there is no shelf lean or bowing present. The boards are superficially damaged with scuff marks and small areas of linen having been scratched away (see scans). The board tips have surface loss and are bent inwards. The gilt lettering on the spine has almost completely faded away. The spine is also darkened when compared to the front and rear boards. The - dappled red marble coloured - page edge blocks are tanned from age. Internally the volume has an Index included which looks like it was placed there but a previous owner rather than at the actual time the magazines were bound. The volume was previously owned by Frank Schofield, chess champion of Yorkshire, England in 1920, 1927 and 1928. His name and address are written in pen on the front endpaper. The endpapers and pastedowns are scuffed and mildly stained but the magazines are NOT. The magazines themselves are all clean and unmarked. There is some age-tanning evident but not that much. The volume appears to be inscription, annotation and foxing free. Frank Schofield looked after his bound BCM's! Games and positions are given in English descriptive notation. Further scanned images are available on request. Standard airmail postage (see An Post.com website for prices) based on book weight (approx.615g, unpackaged) will be used unless the winning bidder requires signature on delivery or insurance, etc. Any questions, please just ask.
