The 1961 International Zurich Chess Tournament was a strong field with Paul Keres (+7 =4 -0), not loosing a game, edging out Tigran Petrosian by a half point and their game being decisive; if he had drawn the scores would have been reversed. Svetozar Gligoric two points behind the leader was clear third. William Lombardy and Lothar Schmid shared fourth and fifth a half point behind. Sixth and seventh was Bent Larsen and Milan Matulovic again a half point behind. In descending order was Dieter Keller eight, Josef Kupper ninth, Walther tenth, E Bhend eleventh and M Christoffel twelfth.
