A Selection of Games at Chess, actually Played by the Late Alexander M’Donnell... with his Principal Contemporaries; including the Whole of the Games Played by De La Bourdonnais and M’Donnell, selected and arranged by William Greenwood Walker, first published in London in 1836.
Author/editor: William Greenwood Walker (secretary of the Westminster Chess Club at the time).
84 games from the famous 1834 match series between Alexander McDonnell (Ireland) and Louis-Charles Mahé de La Bourdonnais (France). Additional games of McDonnell played at odds (including five against W. Fraser in 1831).
An appendix with three games from the earlier William Lewis vs. Deschapelles match (1821). Moves recorded in descriptive algebraic notation of the era, with minimal commentary—focused on preserving game scores accurately, as Walker personally recorded most games during the matches.
