Description

Krylenko, Nikolai Vasilyevich. Vtoroy mezhdunarodnyy shakhmatnyy turnir Moskva 1935. Moskva/Leningrad, Fiskultura i Turism, 1936. In Russian. 592 pages, 2 leaves. LN 5506. Sakharov 500. Sakharov 2: Original publisher’s full cloth binding with embossed gilt lettering on front cover.

Tournament book documenting the Second International Chess Tournament, held in Moscow in 1935. Includes all 190 games played at the event, with annotations by the players themselves.

The original preface by Soviet politician, jurist, and chess official N. V. Krylenko (1885–1938) has been removed from this copy. Krylenko, who played a key role in organizing the tournament, was later executed during Stalin’s Great Purge. His name and preface were systematically removed from all unsold copies - this is one such example.

Condition - Fair: binding soiled and stained. Handwritten numbers on the front endpaper. Krylenko’s name blacked out in three places and his preface (pages 7–10) removed. Paper yellowed with age.
