The book is divided into two parts. The first deals with Rakovnik and its surroundings (pages 7–91) and the history of chess in Rakovnik (pages 92–95). The second part is purely chess-related. Besides an article by Karel Opocensky titled “Poet Above the Chessboard” and an article by Josef Moravec “How a Chess Problem Is Created,” it covers the 16th Congress of the Czech Chess Association held here in the second half of August 1940. The Master tournament is described in detail, round by round, with all games and commentary (won by Foltys ahead of Opocensky and Olexa). At the end of the book, 14 selected games from the main tournament are included (1. Thelen).
Condition - Good or better: dust jacket somewhat soiled with small tears along the edges. Spine slightly skewed.
