Philipp Stamma was a famous Syrian chessmaster in the 18th century. Already in 1737 he piblished his collection of endgame studies. His big merit was the invention of a short notation, which also today is used in a slight improved variattion.
"For the first time it was possible to place the move and its reply on a single line, and to introduce order and ease of reference for the unattractive record of older works" (Murray, page 848).
This second edition is not a reprint, but revised and enlarged. Errors and incorrections are changed.
