Description

Chess Amateur 1920, Vol. XIV – January-September (#160-168), pp. 93-372 + Vol. XVI – October-December (#169-171), pp. 1-96, COMPLETE YEAR, privately bound in uniformly blue hard covers, all covers preserved.

Condition: binding loose (untied) after first cover of #160, #167 and #171, pages or covers may be somewhat stained (i.e. first cover of #160), pages a little folded on vertical half, a small defect at pp. 209-210/#163 - page a little torn, but not affecting text.

Not such a bad copy as is presented and please note that these magazines belonged to W. Pauly, since each first cover and at least one page inside are stamped “[Donaţia] W. PAULY / Martie 1934” (sometimes the stamp may be only partial). Also several annotations in pencil by W. Pauly (p. 107/#160, p. 201/#163, p. 299/#166, p. 29/#169, p. 78/#171).

Wolfgang Pauly (1876 - 1934) was considered one of the greatest chess composers of the world (M. Niemeijer).
