Album from 1930s
with ca 30 caricatures and signatures of world players
Alekhine, Nimzowitsch, Sultan Khan etc.
Drawn by Vilem (Willy) Hofmann
An old photo album with 17 sheets. Instead of photos, there are cards with drawings by Vilem (Willy) Hofmann. Some cards are loose, some are glued in.
Good: the clasp is not functional; a small part is probably missing. Otherwise, there are light/some general signs of use, with no major flaws.
The caricatures show world chess players. Most of the cards have the signature of the player. Almost all caricatures give the author and year of creation. They are usually from 1931 - these were probably created during the Olympiad in Prague. Some cards are from 1933 (from the Olympiad in Hamburg?).
The author of the caricatures, Vilem Hofmann (1910–1972), was strong player, the first master to come from town Olomouc. He earned the master title in 1952 and took part several times in the Czechoslovak Championship.
The album contains caricatures of the following players. All are signed unless otherwise noted:
