Description

Ocherki istorii shakhmat v SSSR, 1949 god. Tom 1-2, complete set

by Vassily Novichenko

tournament results, crosstables, players, history

Lysva, self edition, 2024

Novichenko, Vasily: Ocherki istorii shakhmat v SSSR, 1949 god. Tom 1-2 (complete set).

Lysva, self-edition, 2024. Orig. paperbacks. Photos in text, 1,136 pages. (Second revised and enlarged edition). In Russian. Size 29 x 21 cm. The weight 2,670 grams. Code 10949.

Very good: light signs of use, internally clean with no writings.

The title means „Essays on the History of Chess in the USSR, 1949. Volumes 1-2“

This second edition has about 350 more pages than the first, which was in 2019.

The books contain detailed tournament results, large number of crosstables, chess players, history of chess in various parts of the USSR in 1949.

Information about the USSR championships (including semi-finals), women, juniors, team events, championships and chess in individual Soviet republics, etc.

There are annotated games in the book, but there are not many of them. Instead, the author emphasizes bringing as much information as possible. Much of this has not yet been published in a book form.

Accompanied with many illustrations and photos from contemporary sources, these are sometimes of lower quality. The book contains only practical chess; correspondence or composition chess is not here.

Author wrote several books on the history of chess in the USSR. The previous volumes were devoted to 1945, 1946, 1947 and 1950. All these books are published in small editions of only a few dozen copies.
