Zdrahal, Vaclav, and others: Sbornik Muzea Dr. Bohuslava Horaka Rokycany c.26/2014.

Rokycany, Muzeum Dr. Bohuslava Horaka, 2014. Orig. softcover. 112 pages. Size 20 cm. 190 grams. In Czech, with one paragraph of German Zusammenfassung. Published 200 copies.

Very good: no flaws, text is clean with no writings.

This is a general almanach of Museum in Czech town Rokycany, with several articles on various themes and persons, which have connection to the town.

One of these articles is on Czech chess players Antonin Klir and Leo Taussig. The 21-page article is on pages 86-106. It is written by Jan Kalendovsky and Tomas Zach and titled:

Sachovy odkaz prof. Ing. Dr. Antonina Klira  a univ. prof. MUDr. Leo Taussiga.

(This means: Chess legacy of prof. Ing. Dr. Antonin Klir and univ. prof. MUDr. Leo Taussig).

It contains:

  • all 4 today known games of Antonin Klir from 1893-1900
  • all 35 today known games of Leo Taussig from 1904-1923
  • most games have annotations from contemporary sources
  • Some games were found by Jan Kalendovsky in the archives and are probably published for the first time
  • bibliography

Antonin Klir, 1864-1939, was mainly a chess composer, therefore there are only 4 preserved games.

Leo Taussig, 1864-1944, was one of the best Czech chess players after 1900. His greatest success was the second place at the First Congress of the UJCS (Czech Chess Union) in Prague in 1905 behind Oldrich Duras.

Between 1988 and 2018, the Rokycany Museum published 30 books on various topics. Only three of them contain articles on chess. All three are offered in our current auction.
