The Podebrady 1936 chess tournament was held in the spa town of Poděbrady, Czechoslovakia, from July 10 to August 6, 1936. It was one of the major European tournaments of the 1930s and attracted a strong international field, including Salo Flohr, Paul Keres, Reuben Fine, Gideon Ståhlberg, and Vasja Pirc. The tournament was won convincingly by Salo Flohr, the leading Czechoslovak grandmaster of the time, who scored 13 out of 17 points and finished ahead of Fine and Keres. Flohr’s victory further solidified his reputation as one of the world’s top players and a serious contender for the world championship. The event was notable for its high level of play, the participation of several rising stars, and its role in showcasing Central Europe’s importance as a center of international chess during the interwar period.
