Description

As part of an extensive tour of the department, World Champion Alexander Alekhine visited twenty-five towns between May 28 and July 5, 1932. At each stop, he offered one or two simultaneous games, some of which were played blindfolded.
During his visit to Saint-Étienne, Alekhine achieved a remarkable performance: 39 victories, including two without seeing the chessboard.

Note the fourth player from the left, Mr. Edmond Lancel. He founded the chess magazine L'Echiquier.
