The London 1862 Chess Congress was the first British Chess Federation Chess Congress. It took place from June to August 1862. The event used a round-robin format for the first time in chess history, where each player faced every other competitor. Adolf Anderssen won the tournament, followed by Louis Paulsen in second place and John Owen in third. It marked a major step in standardizing competitive chess.
