Description

Superb 8”x10” photo of Arnold Denker enjoying a meal with Isaac Kashdan, Reuben Fine and I.A. Horowitz. Meals were served to the team, officials and operating staff in the Hotel dining room adjoining the player's room. Taken by famous photographer, Ruth Orkin. 

The USA vs USSR Radio Chess Match took place in September 1945, shortly after World War II. It was the first major international chess competition between the United States and the Soviet Union, played over radio transmissions.

The U.S. team included Reuben Fine, Isaac Kashdan, Arnold Denker, I. A. Horowitz, among others, while the Soviet team featured top players such as Mikhail Botvinnik, Smyslov, Boleslavsky, Flohr and others.

The match was historic, showcasing the strength of Soviet chess and marking the beginning of their long dominance in international chess. It was widely followed in newspapers and chess publications. USSR won 15½-4½.
