Description taken from this page:
Adam jeune (? – 1868) is a near forgotten yet uncommonly gifted French chess theoretician and personality.
Sometime around 1840, hampered by increasing ‘infirmity’ and deafness, Adam jeune, who lived and worked in Rouen all his life, withdrew from his occupation as ‘professeur.’ He devoted the last 25-odd years of his life to chess theoretical issues, to the illustration of a series of around 40 chess classics in his library with more than 16,000 handprinted and drawn diagrams in total, and, finally to his book, about the Knight’s Tour, titled Le Kaleidoscope en 18 Series.
The inquiry “A deaf man’s legacy” consists of two parts:
Part I is devoted to Adam jeune’s viewpoints and insights as a chess addict and tells the fate of his Library.
Part II is the translated text of Adam Jeune’s only book. It was completed in 1867, the year before his death, until now it remained just a manuscript. Le Kaleidoscope describes the wonders of the Knight’s Tour, illustrated with more than 2,500 diagrams, all produced by Adam jeune’s hand. The manuscript ended up in the Cleveland Public Library. The complete text of the 18 Series including a small but representative selection of its thousands of Tours and instructive diagrams is here translated into English. This new and expanded edition now includes the Tran-substantiation story and an annex with two endgame studies on prime numbered squares only. Also, there were added some more thoughtless drawings.
