Description

Rivista di Scacchi 1973-1974. Monthly. In Italian. Editor: Riccardo Magrini. Milano, 1973-1974. Issues 1-12. Volumes 1-2 (all published). Sanvito 902. New Sanvito 3101. Di Felice 2012.

A rare short-lived Italian magazine that rode the wave of chess popularity following the 1972 Fischer-Spassky match. Published from April 1973 through March 1974.

The pagination is somewhat confusing, so I will list it specifically for each issue.

Volume 1:

Issue 1 (April 1973) - 40 pages. An instructional supplement (Chess – a school, a game) with its own pagination 1-8 is inserted after page 16, but it is included in the overall page count; therefore, it is followed by page 25.

Issue 2 (May 1973) - 44 pages. Starting with this issue, the covers are included in the overall page count. An 8-page supplement (Chess – a school, a game, pages 9-16) is inserted after page 18, followed by page 27.

Issue 3 (June 1973) - 44 pages. An 8-page supplement (Chess – a school, a game, pages 17-24) is inserted after page 18, followed by page 27.

Double issue 4-5 (July-August 1973) - 76 pages. A 16-page supplement (Chess – a school, a game, pages 25-40) is inserted after page 30, followed by page 47.

Issue 6 (September 1973) - 44 pages. An 8-page supplement (Chess – a school, a game, pages 41-48) is inserted after page 18, followed by page 27.

Issue 7 (October 1973) - 44 pages. An 8-page supplement (Chess – a school, a game, pages 49-56) is inserted after page 18, followed by page 27.

Issue 8 (November 1973) - 44 pages. An 8-page supplement (Chess – a school, a game, pages 57-64) is inserted after page 18, followed by page 27.

Issue 9 (December 1973) - 44 pages. An 8-page supplement (Chess – a school, a game, pages 65-72) is inserted after page 18, followed by page 27.

Volume 2:

Issue 10 (January 1974) - 44 pages. An 8-page supplement (Chess – a school, a game, pages 73-80) is inserted after page 18, followed by page 27. An additional 4-page supplement (tournament regulations for “Torneo Vacanze”) is also inserted, which is not included in the overall pagination.

Issue 11 (February 1974) - 44 pages. An 8-page supplement (Chess – a school, a game, pages 81-88) is inserted after page 18, followed by page 27. An additional 8-page supplement (tournament regulations) is also inserted, which is not included in the overall pagination.

Issue 12 (March 1974) - 44 pages. An 8-page supplement (Chess – a school, a game, pages 89-96) is inserted after page 18, followed by page 27.

Bound at the beginning there are two additional small-format supplements published as supplements to issues No. 1 and No. 2, 1973. Each consists of 4 pages and focuses on opening theory.

Condition - Generally Good: private half-leather binding with gilt on spine. All covers bound in. Lettering on the spine is faded. Occasional stains inside. Hand-painted drawing on the back cover of issue no. 3. Supplement (pages 1-96) with age-toned paper.
