This book from the famous "black series" in chess literature is entirely devoted to the work of Mikhail Botvinnik , the first of the Soviet world champions and the sixth in history. The publication is a collection of Botvinnik's best games, specially selected for this book from among more than a thousand duels played by the Soviet chess player over almost fifty years of tournament and match practice.
The total number of games is 83. Each of them is analyzed by the author, all of them are given with his personal comments. In addition to the selected matches, the publication includes 10 studies composed by Botvinnik. The book ends with a couple of journalistic works by the world champion, in one of which he briefly narrates his methods of preparation for competitions, and in the second he asks the question "is chess an art?" and, discussing this topic, sets out his subjective opinion.
