Description

"The Australasian Chess Review, 1933" edited by C.J.S. Purdy. First Edition. Vol 5. 344pp. Includes index. Betts 7-70. All twelve issues of this iconic chess magazine for the year 1933. Bound in orange coloured hardback. The volume is in Good condition for its age (90+ years old). The binding is good (but not "tight" as there is some movement to the spine) and all the pages are securely bound. The boards exhibit a very slight bow which might be corrected by a period of time under a weight (such as several chess books!). There is no shelf lean present. The front and rear boards are in good, clean condition. The spine area is in Fair condition with quite heavy sunning evident and some rubbing, creasing and superficial damage to note (see scans). The page edge blocks are tanned from age (particularly the top and bottom edges). Internally the volume is in good, clean condition with very few depredations to note. At pages 2-3 the webbing along the spine is partly visible and there are a few foxing spots but foxing is not an issue in the vast majority of the internal pages. The same issue with the webbing is evident at the corresponding pages at the rear of the volume. A few internal pages have a light vertical crease from having been in the post, back in the day. The internal pages are clean and annotation/inscription free. They are age-tanned but that is only to be expected. Published without a dustjacket. Volume Condition: 6.5/10. Games are given in English descriptive notation. Further scanned images are available on request. A nice copy of a scarce and sought after chess book. Postage extra, from either the Republic of Ireland (via 'An Post') or from Northern Ireland (via 'Royal Mail'). Any questions, please just ask.
