"The Australasian Chess Review 1937-38" edited by C.J.S. Purdy. First Edition. Vols 9+10. Includes indexes. Betts 7-70. All 24 issues of this iconic chess magazine for the years 1937-38, inclusive. Bound in maroon coloured hardback. 360pp + 340pp. The volume is in Very Good condition for its age (90+ years old). The binding is good (but not "tight" as there is some movement evident to the spine) and all the pages are securely bound. There is no bowing to the boards but there is a moderate amount of shelf lean evident. The front and rear boards are in good, clean condition (a little white staining on the front board). The spine area is in Fair condition with quite heavy fading evident to the gilt lettering. The page edge blocks are tanned from age (particularly the top and bottom edges) and the long edge block has a black spot stain on it (see scans). Internally the volume is in good, clean condition with very few depredations to note. A very few internal pages have an age-related speck or smudge mark but the vast majority do not. The internal pages are generally very clean and annotation/inscription free. They are age-tanned but that is only to be expected. Published without a dustjacket. Volume Condition: 7/10. A total of 700pp of rare 1930s chess. Games are given in English descriptive notation. Further scanned images are available on request. Postage extra, from either the Republic of Ireland (via 'An Post') or from Northern Ireland (via 'Royal Mail'). Any questions, please just ask.
