"The duel mentioned in the title occupies half of the 235 pages of content. The matches Lasker-Mieses (1889/90), Lasker-Blackburne (1892), and especially Lasker-Schlechter (1910) are discussed in relatively great detail; Lasker's other matches are only briefly touched upon. A total of 51 games are analyzed.

Like all ambitious historians, Hübner works with a strong focus on sources. This is evidenced by numerous footnotes as well as the older game annotations listed in the preface to each detailed game commentary, to which the author refers. He by no means limits himself to Hübner, however, doesn't skimp on his own analyses and interpretations of events.  Regarding the game commentary: depending on the course of the game, Hübner goes into varying degrees of depth. Sometimes he limits himself to a few general observations, quite often he comments on the usual points, and only in some games do we find the famously variation trees. Hübner's analyses are, as always, profound".
