Endgame: Bobby Fischer's Remarkable Rise and Fall – From America's Brightest Prodigy to the Edge of Madness is the definitive biography of legendary chess player Bobby Fischer, written by distinguished author, journalist, and personal friend, Dr. Frank Brady. Published in 2011, it chronicles Fischer's entire journey: from his astonishing rise as a child prodigy in Brooklyn to the absolute top of the world during the Cold War, until its tragic slide into paranoia and isolation. Brady uses recently declassified FBI documents, KGB files, Fischer's personal correspondence, and dozens of interviews to shed light on all periods of his life.
Unlike other chess books, Endgame focuses on the psyche of the man rather than the technical analysis of the games. Brady manages to maintain an objective but compassionate attitude towards a personality who was at once "the pride and sorrow of chess."
Frank Brady (born March 1934), is an American author, academic, International Arbiter, and is considered one of the world's leading authorities on the life of Bobby Fischer. His personal relationship with Fischer began when he was a teenager and Fischer was a child prodigy on the New York chess scene. This proximity allowed him to capture the life of the great chess player with unique authenticity and depth. For his overall contribution, he was inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame in 2021.
