J.H. ten Hacken was a passionate bibliophile and collector of ex libris. Although the name is well-known within the Dutch chess world, this specific graphic ownership mark was designed for his personal library.
He commissioned personalised bookmarks from graphic artists to mark his book collection.
His bookmarks often feature detailed etchings of trees, flora, and historic city silhouettes (as seen in the image).
In addition to the mind sport, he occupied himself with literature and small-scale graphic art.
