Leonid Zakharovych Stein [12.11 1934 - 4.7 1973] was a Ukrainian GM who won the Soviet championship in 1963, 1965 and 1966. His intuitive and creative style was greatly influenced by Chigorin and Alekhine. He could have been a world champion but died of a heart attack at 38. He had plus scores against Tal, Spassky and Keres; even scores against Botvinnik, Smyslov and Petrosian.
