Description

Yefim Petrovich Geller: The Application of Chess Theory. 100 annotated games. Translated by Kenneth P. Neat.

In English. Algebraic notation.
Yefim Geller has been one of the world's foremost grandmasters over the past three decades. He has also earned the reputation of being the leading Soviet authority on opening theory, and it is no accident the he has seconded both Spassy and Karpov in matches for the World Championship. In this annotated collection of his own games, Geller pays particular attention to opening plans and to their development in the middle game. By grouping together the games played with a particular variation he makes it easier for the reader to grasp the strategems typical to the given opening. Against the eight World Champions he has encountered during his career, Geller has a remarkable record - only Tal and Spassky can boast a plus score - and in the second half of the book he gives more than thirty convincing answers to the question: "how does one defeat a World Champion?".
