Description

The complete series of caricatures of international chess masters created by A. Stahmer around 1930 is a very rare set of twelve black-and-white postcards published by Hans Hedewigs Nachf., Leipzig, for the Hamburger Nachrichten. The set is preserved in it's original portfolio, which features a caricature of Tartakower—a detail that is rarely preserved. The portraits depict Alexander Alekhine, Frank Marshall, Hans Kmoch, Willem Weenink, Savielly Tartakower, Vera Menchik, Friedrich Sämisch, George Alan Thomas, Akiba Rubinstein, Géza Maróczy, Mir Sultan Khan, and Carl Ahues.
