Axel Emil Axelson [24.9 1920 - 4.8 1982] was one of the Greatest Leaders in Correspondence Chess, National and International. 1956-1965 he was Tournament Director for the World Championship Finals and Semifinals. In Sweden he was a Board Member of SSKK from 1954 until his sudden Death 1982. During this time he was Secretary, Treasurer, Tournament Director and Bulletin Editor. To Celebrate his Memory SSKK decided to arrange a Tournament of Highest possible Strength.

A E Axelson Memorial was the Strongest Tournament up to then. For the First Time all 15 participants were Grandmasters. Among them were Four World Champions (Zagorovsky, Sloth, Öim and Palciauskas) and further more Baumbach who became World Champion during the Tournament. The Book Contains all 105 Games from the Tournament Annotated in Depth and Presentations of the Players with 15 Games.
