Description

Ceskoslovensky sach 1957. Praha. Monthly. In Czech. Editor: Jiri Podgorny. 192 + 96 pages. Issues 1-12. Title page not issued. Index on pages 191-192. Volume 51. All covers bound in. Di Felice 470.

In 1953, a special supplement to Ceskoslovensky sach, entitled Turnajovy bulletin, began publication. It continued to be published until 1958. Five issues were published in 1953, and 12 issues in each of the following years. Turnajovy bulletin primarily provided reports from various tournaments, as well as annotated and unannotated games. In 1958, Turnajovy bulletin also included a chess problems section entitled Ulohy a studie (Problems and Studies), edited by Vladimir Pachman. Di Felice lists Turnajovy bulletin as a separate periodical under No. 2677.

From 1952 to 1968, the chess problems section was part of the magazine's regular pagination.

Ceskoslovensky sach is the main Czech chess magazine published continuously since 1906. The title changed over time mainly for political reasons: Casopis ceskych sachistu (1906–1919), Casopis ceskoslovenskych sachistu (1920–1926), Ceskoslovensky sach (1927–1938 and 1946–present), and Sach (1939–1945).

Condition - Good: Full-cloth binding with lettering on spine. Occasional erasable handwritten notes. A small stain (approx. 2 × 2 cm) on the leaf with pages 61-62. Paper slightly yellowed.  The Turnajovy bulletin supplement is bound separately in a simple soft paper binding without lettering, with sporadic minor spotting. In addition to Turnajovy bulletin, a German-language bulletin from the 1957 tournament in Gotha (approx. 20 pages) is also bound in at the end.
