Description

Imre König: Chess from Morphy to Botwinnik (1977).

A century of chess evolution.

König discusses the evolution of four openings in 107 marvelously annotated games, from the great masters of the 19th century (Morphy, Pillsbury, Lowenthal, Blackburne, Anderssen, Staunton) up to the modern masters (Alekhine, Keres, Capablanca, Botwinnik, Euwe, Reshevsky). König devotes separate chapters to each of the major variations of these openings. His comments before and after the game detail their salient points of illustration: more generalized discussions at the beginning of each chapter serve to clarify the importance of the variations in modern chess.
