1566 edition of the works of Marco Girolamo Vida, published in Lyon by Antoine Gryphe, the same year as the author's death. Vida is the author of short poems, such as "Bombycum" (on self-worms, butterflies), "Scacchia ludus" (on chess), and a second serious and in-depth work, "De arte poetica". "Scacchia Ludus" by Marco Girolamo Vida, an Italian Renaissance poet and bishop. Written in the early 16th century, this work is essentially a poem about chess, glorifying the rules, strategies and characteristic aspects of the game through poetic language and metaphors. The poem is quite long and describes various facets of chess, often using heroic and classical references to give the game an almost mythical character. 1 volume in-16 (11.7 x 7.7 cm), later half-leather binding from the 19th century, smooth decorated spine, marbled edges. Interior is clean and in good condition. Missing caps, upper jaw cut 2cm. Some slightly scorched pages. Good general condition of this work.
