Albin, Adolph. Chess-aphorisms and reminiscences. Hannover, self-published 1899. 8°. With portrait plate of the author and a few diagrams. 4 sheets, 112 pages. Original publisher binding in red cloth, embossed chessboard on front cover, and gold stamped title. Linde - N. 4278. The Romanian master and theorist A. Albin (1847 - 1920) had some strong appearances at tournaments and was introduced around 1890 named after him counter-gambit in the tournament practice. The issue contains entertaining chess aphorisms, some tournament games by Albin (including the tournament in Dresden 1892, New York 1893, Hastings 1895), the "Chess Comedy to Nuremberg" and end positions. Rare edition. This item originates from the chess book collection of Zahari Stanchev, (April 27, 1920 - January 27, 1980) from Sofia, Bulgaria. Stanchev was Bulgaria's representative to FIDE in the 1960s, writer of chess books, and international arbiter.
