Postcard at the occasion of the Living chess game held on the 5th Sokol gymnastic festival Prague 1907.
Praha, issued by Ceska obec sokolska (Czech Sokol Community), (1907). Size 14 x 9 cm. Not postally used. The weight 10 grams.
About Good: the card is somewhat soiled, some signs of use.
Postcard issued at the occasion of living chess game, which was presented on the 5th Sokol festival in Prague, June 28 – July 1, 1907. The game had interpreted the battle between troops of Jan Zizka z Trocnova (John Zizka of Trocnov and the Chalice) and King Zikmund (Sigismund of Luxembourg) from 8 January 1422, which was near the town Nemecky Brod.
On this occasion, several postcards were issued. This one shows Jan Zizka and his troops. In the book on the 5th Sokol festival (Scheiner, Josef, and others: Paty slet vsesokolsky.., Praha 1908), picture used in this card is reproduced on page 26.
The text on the front side means in English “Chess tournaments at the 5th All-Sokol Festival in Praha 1907” and „Published by Czech Sokol Community / photographed by Brunner – Dvorak."
