(chess columns from the library of Ilja Mikan)
Narodni osvobozeni
6 notebooks with chess columns (problem section)
from the beginning to the end: 1924-1948
with 1,500 (or more) problems, many of them are originals
from the library of Ilja Mikan
(Whyld: Chess Columns p.285; Mokry 337)
Narodni osvobozeni 1924-1948.
Praha, 1924-1948. A set of 6 note books, containing problem section of the chess columns. Size ca 21x14 cm. The weight 1,650 grams. Whyld: Chess Columns, page 285; Mokry 337. In Czech.
About Good: some general sign of use.
These 6 notebooks contain cca 1,500 (or more) problems that were published in the daily paper Narodni osvobozeni (it can be translated as The National Liberation) from the beginning of chess column 23/03/1924 to the end on 25/12/1948. (The column was not published between January 1939 – July 1946).
The notebooks contain only the problem section of chess columns – section with games and studies is not present (resp. only sporadically).
The volumes 1924-1931 are partially newspaper cuttings or off-prints pasted inside, partially with handwritten text and stamped diagrams in Ilja Mikan’s hand who was author and first owner of these notebooks – his signature and stamp appear several times in the front of some volumes.
Volumes 1933-1939, 1946-1948 are mostly newspaper cuttings or offprints of chess columns pasted inside.
Particular volumes are complete or almost complete, except year 1932, which is not present (column not published between January 1939 – July 1946).
Editor of the chess column was Miroslav Havel all the time.
The column of the newspaper Narodni osvobozeni practically does not appear. The reason is that almost no one kept the columns published in the daily newspapers.
